On Sunday July 28th, the Minus The Machine Tour made its way to the legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto as part of its second stop of the 4 month tour with American rockers, 10 Years. This particular stop was supported by Oshawa locals, The Standstills.

The Horseshoe Tavern was packed and intimate; everyone was socializing and sharing stories of the last time they had the chance to see 10 years- some saw them in the early 2000’s with KoRn and others more recently with Hollywood Undead– whether fans have seen them previously or were 10 Years virgins; the anticipations were all equally as high.

The Standstills made for a perfect opening act for this bill. The two-piece- high energy rock duo had an incredibly powerful sound that any four piece act would have trouble achieving.

Drummer Renee Couture holds the band together and has a blast rocking out behind her drum kit. Renee’s drumming style is catchy; upbeat and unique. She will have you staring in amazement as she effortlessly and gracefully beats the hell out of her kit. Guitar player and vocalist Jonny Fox is equally as engaging while he rips guitar solos and catchy upbeat riffs. Jonny’s vocals and energy on stage will suck you in.

The Standstills made sure every dedicated fan in the venue signed Renee’s kick drum and they didn’t hesitate to go out of their way to meet and take pictures with everyone who enjoyed their performance (so basically, everyone there).

The Standstills played all of their fan favourites along with songs off of their latest release “Pushing Electric” (January 2013). their set list included; an awesome AC/DC “Thunderstruck” intro to “Black Betty”, “Jesus”, “Pistol”, “Gone”, “The Wolf”, “Underneath My Skin” & “Dance”.

Fans were pumped and cheering when the time came for 10 Years to take the stage. The band stepped out and vocalist Jesse Hasek looked like he meant business with his war painted face.

The band sounded incredible and managed to put themselves out there to all of the fans as they got into the crowd and sang their hearts out with everyone in the venue.

The band was tight and the crowd was almost as passionate as Jesse’s signature serenading vocals.

10 Years told fans that they were happy to be back in Canada; Toronto is extremely appreciative with this being the only Canadian stop of the tour- it just goes to show how involved and lucky we are to live in such a musically inclined city.

After their set, 10 Years made sure to say hi to all of the fans who decided to stick around. These guys have been in the industry for over a decade and one thing that they have surprisingly not yet developed is a big ego. They are in this music game for the right reasons and their sincerity and genuine approach to their sound and interactions with fans are what other bands need to take under better consideration.
