ALBUM REVIEW: BREATHE CAROLINA “SAVAGES”

breath carolina

Words By: Dylan McAteer

Released: April 15, 2014 via Fearless Records

Just in time for the summer transition, Breathe Carolina released Savages. There have been a lot of questions around what they would produce after the addition of Tommy Cooperman as programmer and guitarist.

The duo released their first mixed tape, titled Bangers, in early July last year. The tape was supposed to be written for the 2014 release, but with the loss of Kyle Even a great deal changed. Only “Mistakes” was taken from the tape onto the album, as there was difference of opinions.

Savages has a sweet summer vibe to it, which everyone is no doubt dying for around now. If you’re into the whole electro scene than this is something big for you! “Collide” provides a pretty good feel for the album as a whole with a solid beat and catchy vocals. David Schmitt does a phenomenal job, as per usual, on vocals.

“Please Don’t Say” is another stand out track simply because it has that anthem feel to it. This may sound crazy, but it feels like you’re taking a journey when you listen to this jam. Just an all around feel good beat that will have you rocking no matter where you are.

I would have to say that “Sellouts” is the best track to be found on here, because it offers a lot. I say this simply because it’s the best vocally with screams and cleans, plus it is incredible electronically. Danny Worsnop (Asking Alexandria) is a great addition to the song, bringing about this dark almost Halloween like feeling.

Overall this album is a solid release that grows on you the more you listen. I admit I’ve never been a huge fan of these guys, but I’ll definitely be holding on to this one. The best part about the album is that it has something to offer just about anyone who would pick it up. Give it a listen and let’s see your thoughts!

You can catch Breathe Carolina in Toronto for the Vans Warped Tour on July 4 @ Molson Canadian Amphitheatre.
