Miss May I released their brand new album, Rise Of The Lion, this week and it more than lives up to expectation. This being their fourth album, you can really see the evolution and creativity.
They kick it off with a bang as the album begins with the fiery “Refuse To Believe”. It is one of my favorite tracks on the album because it makes it clear that the band is here to build off their last album, At Heart. They’ve kept true to their style and that’s a huge relief since they’re so uniquely talented. They’re ahead of the game and it shows. I find that you get classic Miss May I, but with a brand new bite.
Another stand out song on the album is titled “Tangled Tongues”. This is a very good example of the vast vocal power that the band possesses. It’s their vocals that make them stand apart from the rest; they’re like no other in the industry. Levi Benton’s voice is such a huge reason why this album rocks. The instrumentals are incredibly well done throughout but here in particular. They sync their vocals and instrumentals seamlessly in a way that compliments the other.
Another track off the album would have to be “Hero With No Name” because I think it has the best combination of elements. The guitar riffs, especially the opening one, are incredible. Of course the synthesis of cleans and screams is impressive to say the least. It’s hard to explain but this track has a powerful feel to it that brings a ton of energy.
Overall this is a great release with no weak points to it. Fans of Miss May I won’t be disappointed and those of you that don’t know them are in for a treat. Definitely one of the best releases of 2014 thus far.
Be sure to catch these guys on July 25 at the Molson Amphitheatre as part of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival.
