LASTEST RELEASE: EARTHWALKER (May 2014, via UNFD)
Science isn’t exactly sure what element it is about Australia that makes the country produce so many awesome hardcore and similar genre metal bands, perhaps the fact that everything under the sun there threatens to kill you on a daily basis. Sharks in the water, venomous snakes and spiders on land; baby eating dingos. Either way whatever it is hopefully it keeps on working because there are some unbelievable acts coming out of the place such as; Parkway Drive, Northlane, Deez Nuts, The Amity Affliction and I Killed The Prom Queen to mention just a few.
Whichever the formula it keeps on working, and the proof is evident in the latest release from the Aussie boys of In Hearts Wake, entitled Earthwalker. Released May 2nd this year Earthwalker has had astounding success in Australian markets hitting number 5 on the Aussie charts and is steadily gaining rank in North America. The album was recorded in the US, at Random Awesome Studio’s in Michigan, the likes of whom have worked with The Color Morale, and For the Fallen Dreams.
Earthwalker definitely carries a theme of nature and unity with the Earth as well as each other. Before you go saying “Oh, not another metalcore band, just wait for the breakdown…” these guys are extremely talented and have so many different facets to them over the average metalcore band. With lyrical content for the most part staying away from stereotypical heartbreak, and generally sticking to positive vibes, with a hint of the darker aspects of life intertwined. The overall depth and layers of each track of the album is astounding.
The album opens up with an intro appropriately titled “Gaia” which contrary to popular belief is not an actual name for Earth but for the ancient Greek goddess of Earth. Phased and delayed guitars accompanied by droning drums set the mood for the album to really open up and spark on the following track. The bands start/stop drum and guitar rhythms are absolutely tremendous, the staccato effect really gives the tracks movement.
Coming out of the intro you dive into the albums title track “Earthwalker” which features guest vocals from singer Joel Birch of The Amity Affliction. Amity fans will instantly note the signature over-the-top vocals of Birch through the chorus. There is a mammoth weight thrown around through the entire album and Earthwalker just gives you a taste of what is to come.
The third track of the album is “Divine” which In Hearts Wake released as a single and put together a visually astounding music video for (can be seen below). With searingly smooth guitar fills the ambience of “Divine” is constantly in limbo as waves of varying tones wash over you from your speakers (especially at an optimal volume!).
The remaining tracks of Earthwalker continue to be absolutely colossal sounding with soaring choruses, brutal chugs, layered cascading vocals and all together just a dumbfounding amount of awesome.
In Hearts Wake is currently awaiting the start of a big Australia/New Zealand Tour called The Rise of Brotality accompanying I Killed The Prom Queen, The Ghost Inside, Bury Tomorrow and Hellions. We hope and pray for North American Tour dates in the near future from these gents.
