On Saturday, October 26th, 2019 Taking Back Sunday’s 20th Anniversary Tour invaded the Danforth Music Hall in Toronto for their first of two back to back SOLD OUT nights where they would bless their longtime fans with the enjoyment of getting to hear the sounds of their youth aka Tell All Your Friends played in it’s entirety from front to back. PLUS the pleasure of watching the band flip a coin on stage to find out which album they would follow-up with, between Where You Want to Be and Louder Now– no matter what side that coin landed on, everyone was a winner and on this night the prize was Where You Want to Be!
This show was supported by Oklahoma’s Red City Radio who helped welcome eager fans into the packed venue. The crowd was into them and ready for what the remainder of the night had in store!
Finally, the lights dimmed and some tears were shed as the band stepped out and had everyone in attendance yell “SO SICK SO SICK OF BEING TIRED AND OH SO TIRED OF BEING SICK!” as they kicked off the night with the foreseen opener “You Know How I Do”. Fans were freaking the fuck out. The energy was high and the nostalgia had hit it’s peak.
Fresh out of the 2019 Federal Election, vocalist Adam Lazarra took a moment to say he would have voted for our newly re-elected Prime Minister Trudeau, and when he was met with some boo’s from the crowd, he responded perfectly by saying “fuck you, I have a microphone!”.
Adam also stated “We didn’t come here to talk, we came here to celebrate! 2019 marks 20 years since we’ve been a band!”. He also went on to tell the crowd that “Great Romances of the 20th Century” was the first song that the band ever wrote together, and goddamn, that shit is flawless!
After what felt like minutes, the 10 song album was over. But luckily for fans, we all new there was more in store as the band brought out their tour manager to flip a coin that would determine the fate of the remainder of the evening… Where You Want to Be was up next.
Banger after banger! Whether you were a new fan of the band or are a die-hard emo kid on the inside who has been listening since the days when your parents would let you drive their mini-van, you managed to suck up every ounce of pure greatness that came from the stage. Let’s face it, we’re not kids anymore and being an adult is pretty shitty sometimes (all the time), but getting to escape and go back in time with your people and favorite band makes it all totally worth it!
