On Sunday June 28th, 2015, The Heavy Press sent Kayla Del Greco to Bud Light Digital Dreams at Echo Beach in Toronto to find out what it’s like to attend Canada’s largest Electronic Dance Music Festival. As it turns out, things weren’t all that different than what we’d expect from a rock show…
Heading to this event I thought of it being completely different then the rock concerts I’ve attended in the past. With the up-beat dance music in place of guitar solos I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It turns out besides the differences of the music genre, the energy is all quite the same. The crowds are full of people who love the music and are there to enjoy every moment of the event. From being up on peoples shoulders to head banging and dancing with the beat to their favorite songs, everyone is their to do what they do best at concerts and simply rock out.
Although Digital Dreams started off on bad terms with the cancellation on day one due to heavy rain, the ravers didn’t let the weather bring them down when it came to day two. With the rain pouring down on and off throughout the event, their spirits never dropped and everyone made the best of it and kept partying to their favorite artists.
The event consisted of three stages, carnival rides, dancers and all the venders needed to complete a music festival. The dream stage was Digital’s main stage that featured top performers such as Adventure Club, Martin Garrix, and Zedd. As the night progressed it became clear that this was the stage of many ravers choice as the crowd grew to the point that it became almost impossible to walk through and was full of energy. It was no surprise that this stage gained so much attention with the overall visual display of smoke, lights, confetti and fire set off by the stage crew during the drop of the artist’s greatest songs.
The Bacardi stage was full of the head banging beats brought by artists Zomboy, Datsik, Flux Pavilion, Excision and many more throughout the day. Here you could find ravers crowd surfing on rafts to get a better view of the set and a true feel of the crowd. If you love to dance with your feet in the sand while listening to your favorite artists, the Echo Beach stage was perfect for you, featuring artists Pete Tong and Deep Dish.
The ravers arrived decked out in an assortment of colourful and beaded outfits, as well as a few animal and superhero costumes. Everyone was showing their spirit on peoples shoulders in the crowd or showing their pride dancing with their countries flag. Overall the festival was a huge hit and made me gain a new appreciation for the genre. The artists know how to energize the crowd as well as play some great music; It’s definitely an event to experience.
