PHOTOGRAPHY & REVIEW BY MICHAEL AMARAL
The last time Refused played in Toronto they were supporting Deftones in 2016. Refused fans have been waiting quite a while for their return to Toronto and this time they are headlining the Phoenix Concert Threatre in support of their latest release “War Music” (Spinefarm Records). They hit the stage and started off strong banging out hit after hit. When singer Dennis Lyxzen addressed the crowd he had a lot of heavy topics to discus such as capitalism, dystopia, mental health and the importance of the punk community supporting each other.
It wouldn’t be a Refused show without the singer getting into the mosh pit to scream “Rather be alive” with the crowd or the band breaking into Slayer’s “Raining Blood” during their song “The Deadly Rhythm. Overall, the show was fantastic, I recommended you check them out live the next chance you get!
